SCHEDULED MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC
River Road Bridge: Marc Pickering, VTrans District 2, was present to discuss recommendations made regarding the River Road Bridge. He noted that the State inspects all town bridges with a span of over 20 feet, every two years, In the latest inspection, degradation of the beams on the River Road bridge were noted. A couple of the beams had severe corrosion. A letter with recommendations follows the inspection.
Todd met with Marc and a structural engineer, along with a bridge contractor in November and discussed options.
The State is recommending one of two immediate options: reduce the load rating to 8,000 pounds, or keep the load rating at 16,000 and bring curbing in a foot on each side so the weight is at the center of the bridge. Marc noted that it’s up to the Board which option they choose. Todd noted that he’d ordered the signs to reduce the weight limit and felt that was the best option.
Discussion ensued regarding the detour and what that means for emergency services.
The Board discussed repair options with Marc Pickering. Cost estimates for the various options are between $125,000 and $200,000. Marc explained the VTrans Structures Grant program. With the critical nature of the bridge, the town would have a good chance of a grant.
Todd, Shannon and Marc will work together on an RFP and the grant application. Shannon will speak to the bank about funding the project in anticipation of the structures grant.
