The meeting was called to order at 6:02pm by Ken Estey.
ADDITIONS/AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA
Jane Douglas requested clarification of the Forms & Documents page on the Town of Newfane website. There are two Town Plans and two Zoning Bylaws listed, and she asked if the older versions could be removed. Ken will look into it.
Commission reviewed minutes of 2/11/21 meeting. A motion was made by Jane and seconded by Kate to approve the minutes of 2/11/21. The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
UNSCHEDULED MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC
Carlos and Janine introduced themselves as new neighbors getting to know the town. They’re interested in the broadband project and helping where they can. Kate recruited them for the mutual aid group.
Natural Burial Zoning Bylaw revision – update.
Public hearing will be held Sunday Feb 28 at 2:00pm, Ken and Jane will be attending.
Broadband Update, Deerfield Valley Communications Union District:
Jane report that the request for bids process is underway for the first towns to be wired. The board is quite busy right now, between the bidding process and lining up money to pay for it.
Zoning Bylaw for Short Term Rentals – discussion, next steps:
Ken suggested that we set a goal for the Planning Commission to hold its Public Hearing at the end of May.
Selectboard meeting, Mar 15: Who will attend?:
Jane will attend, as she has to arrange for herself and Luke Stafford to be re-appointed to the governing board of DVfiber for the year. Ken will let Wanetta know.
Report, Development Review Board (DRB):
Walter Dadik reported that they were in the process of reorganizing the membership of the DRB. They expect to be working on the green burial review.
Update on food insecurity panel & Planning Commission proposal for date:
Our March 11 meeting will have a panel assembled, including Rob Hamm, minister of the Newfane Church, Scotty Tabachnick, principal of Newbrook Elementary School, and Gloria Cristolli of WRVMA. Also possibly Christine from Groundworks in Brattleboro.
Planning for work of the Planning Commission for the coming year:
Ken and Kate will form a working group to look over the Town Plan and see how to bring some of the things it recommends to the attention of the Selectboard. Ken agrees to reach out to Lynn to see if she has the list of the 10 priorities sent to the Selectboard last year. They will have a meeting to review the Town Plan and come up with a list of priorities for the Planning Commission for the future.
A motion was made by Kate and seconded by Jane to adjourn. The motion carried unanimously by voice vote and the meeting adjourned at 7:35pm.
