ROAD FOREMAN & ROAD COMMISSIONER’S REPORT:
- The engineering proposal for the Newfane Village sidewalk is in hand, Melissa, Colin and I will be meeting tomorrow to discuss it further. It should be ready for the next meeting.
- The bids are out for both the over-height warning and the decking for the Covered Bridge. We will have those for the next meeting.
- The 2 signs were installed this morning on the covered bridge warning the 11’2” height.
- The Green Iron Bridge scoping meeting was very interesting; it sounds like it’s several years away and they were leaning towards a refurbishment. They will reach out to the town once they have a more solid plan.
- I have to meet tomorrow with Ed at WW to go over the material list for the shed at the garage.
- I have the 2026 Town Road and Bridge Standards for the Selectboard to sign.
Discussion:
Brown was asked to look for a letter from Carol at Vtrans stating that the State will pay for repairs or refurbishment to the Green Iron Bridge.
Cleverly made a motion to sign the 2026 Town Road and Bridge Standards. Dowling seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Johnson-Aplin made a motion to accept the Road Foreman’s report. Cleverly seconded the motion. Motion passed.

UNSCHEDULED MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC:
Douglas asked the Selectboard where the report was for Newfane Cemetery’s Social Appropriation Request. The Selectboard stated that no paperwork was submitted and asked Brown to reach out to the Cemetery Commission to obtain the documentation.
Douglas also inquired about asking for a Social Appropriation for the South Newfane Cemetery. She was advised to either ask at the 2026 Town Meeting or submit a request during next year’s budget planning.
White discussed the possibility of creating a policy for the Town to prevent future Town Meetings having unofficial town business discussed during Town Meetings. The Selectboard asked Brown to look into this and see if the Town was allowed to create a policy if they decide to.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: None.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT’S REPORT:
- The Town Report books were received on Tuesday and were labeled and mailed the same day.
- Avarie began her position as Office Assistant this past week. She is gradually being introduced to various administrative duties.
- We have been preparing for the Organizational Meeting by drafting letters for potential appointed officials.
- The VLCT Equipment Grant has been finalized and sent off for reimbursement.
- Overweight permits have been received and are being processed accordingly.

Notice for Proposed Well Shield. The Selectboard reviewed the letter along with the attachments. No action was necessary.
Address the idea of Pledge Allegiance being said at the 2026 Town Meeting.
The Selectboard read Mantel’s email aloud. Brief discussion ensued. Brown was asked to contact Town Moderator, Kim Friedman and ask if she could attend the next Selectboard meeting on March 2, 2026, to prep for Town Meeting on March 3, 2026 and discuss the Pledge of Allegiance.
