Meeting Minutes—Wednesday, December 20, 2023

Present: Katy Johnson-Aplin, Joan Weir, Lance Lindgren, Breeze Verdant

The meeting at the Newfane town office began at 6:02 pm.

Meeting minutes (Nov. 28, 2023) were reviewed, amended to correct the meeting date to Nov. 29, and then accepted for approval.

Selectboard update—On December 11 the letter from the Traffic Calming Committee was read out loud by Lance at the Selectboard budget session. The Selectboard agreed to send the letter to the Sheriff’s Dept. Katy will send the letter on behalf of the town. The Selectboard also suggested that any service increase for speed enforcement should go to the voters as an article at the March town meeting. Any article would need to be drafted by January 19.

Traffic Ordinance—Jay and Katy have worked on the proposed ordinance and expect that the Selectboard will take this up in March. As it concerns this Committee, speed sign locations will be changed in South Newfane.

Beautification efforts—We discussed the possibility of placing planters on our welcome signs in the villages (a total of 8 signs). We discussed briefly how to fund this (as well as flowers on bridges)—through businesses or the town budget, and of course the need for volunteers at each site. Design proposals will be sought for the 6 benches in January by the Selectboard. Each bench will be designed to seat 4 people.
